This is due to the fact that the instrument consists of a simple piece of wood, and industrialization has never been considered necessary or efficient. Even after being processed by certain machines, manual modifications are often required to complete the tuning of the instrument.
Who are the artisans of Duduk?
As mentioned before, the Duduk is crafted and optimized by experienced artisans, who are distinguished by their own techniques, finishes, and qualities, inevitably leading to the presence of their individual reputations.
Although adherence to ancestral rules is required in the making of a Duduk, it is not uncommon for artisans to make personalized adaptations, thus giving each Duduk an outstanding uniqueness.
Currently, the production and marketing of the Duduk, an emblematic musical instrument of Armenia, are the result of the meticulous work of a handful of individuals, all seasoned and passionate artisans. Only about twenty people have chosen to embrace this noble profession, which involves bringing to life unique pieces, crafted with extreme rigor and unparalleled expertise.
