Presentation

La Maison du Duduk features in its catalog the instruments crafted by Karen Mukayelyan, also known under the pseudonym MKS. Karen M. is a master luthier specializing in the production of wind instruments, including the Duduk, Blul, and Shvi.

The Armenian Shvi can be compared to a piccolo or a recorder.
Its playing style is characterized by a very high-pitched tone, making it a solo instrument that adds rich color to fast melodies, thanks to its exceptional flexibility.

Its functionality is similar to that of the Duduk; it is tuned to a diatonic scale, with whole tones and semitones played in the same manner as on the Duduk.

The Shvi is played across various musical styles but is most commonly found in traditional orchestras, often serving as the highest-pitched instrument in the ensemble.

About the Artisan

The instruments crafted by Karen Mukayelyan are renowned for their exceptional sound quality and craftsmanship. They are distinguished by their precision, ease of play, and deeply Armenian timbre, making him one of the most iconic Duduk makers of the past decade.

This combination of features ensures that Karen M.'s instruments, whether Duduks or other wind instruments, deliver a superior tone, tuning accuracy, and professional-level finishing.
